Several players from across Vancouver Island-Central, known as zone 6, competed in the 33 annual B.C. Summer games in July. 

 A three week try out process was completed to get the best of the best ready to compete. The team only had just over a month to arrange practices and games up and down the island. The roster was made up of 18 initially, with only 11-12 of the girls able to practice together three times a week. The complete team came together after the other eight girls completed competing for the B-Cup in Victoria. The full team only had two practices together before they headed to Maple Ridge for the B.C. Summer Games. 

The team鈥檚 first game together was against the Fraser River, zone 4, and the game ended in a tie of 0-0. Next the girls played against Cariboo-North East, zone 8. That final score in that game was 3-1 in favour of the Vancouver Island girls. Goals were scored by Bridgitte Powers and two from Mira Herschmiller. In the third game, against Kamloops, zone 2, the girls came out on top again with a finish of 1-0 and a goal from Comox鈥檚 own Sadie Schwigel. 

This left the Vancouver Island team at the top of the pool, playing for the gold medal game. This game was against Thompson-Okanagan, zone 2. After the regular time left the game at a 0-0 tie, the game went into penalty kicks. Vancouver Island finished first with a final score of 4-2. The player of the match was Comox鈥檚 own, goalie Ella Atherstone.
