The Comox Valley Toy Library is setting records in its 10th year.

“Our last Saturday opening was our busiest yet,” said board member Ruby Franklin. “We are delighted to see a big increase in membership post-pandemic.”

“We are so busy we sometimes don’t have the volunteer numbers required to open… CVTLS saw 728 members borrow 2,218 toys (last year).”

The Comox Valley non-profit lets families pick toys and bring them home for their children.

This is done through an annual $20 membership fee. Members gain access to a library several times a month to trade-in and exchange five toys at a time.

With the schedule getting busy, the team welcomes any new faces.

“We’re a mixed group of young moms and grandparents and we almost always have our kids with us and babies strapped to our chests. We’ll take any extra help we can get, even our toddlers.”

College students are getting involved in a win-win deal.

“I’ve teamed up with NIC (North Island College) and we’ve become a part of their Digital Design program in which students are currently updating all our digital and hard copy material (websites, social media etc) to help us reach all families that could benefit from our service.

In its 10th year, there are plans for new programs on the horizon.

“We’re also working on an outreach program involving play pop-ups that will hopefully launch this summer at various locations and events (the public library and Farmers Market).”

“We’re 100 per cent volunteers run, and we’re attracting more and more families each month. If you’re able to share some time and volunteer with the Toy Library, we’d love to have you! “
