Significant seizures of drugs, firearms by Comox Valley RCMP

The Comox Valley RCMP have been busy the past few weeks, with two significant seizures, where guns and drugs were taken off the local streets.

Comox Valley RCMP have seized guns and drugs off the streets within the past few weeks.

The Comox Valley RCMP have been busy the past few weeks, with two significant seizures, where guns and drugs were taken off the local streets.

On July 26 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Island Highway North, near Virginia Drive, in Courtenay.

The driver was reported to have fled from the scene. A 19-year-old man from Courtenay was located a short distance away, with the assistance of the Police Dog Services. A firearm, a quantity of Canadian currency and a quantity of possible crack cocaine was seized from the scene.

This man is currently in custody on other charges, and is now facing a list of new charges including:

-Possession of a firearm contrary to a probation order

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking

-Breach of probation

On August 3, a 22-year-old man was located by an Integrated Forensic Identification Section officer, and stopped with the assistance of the Comox Valley Crime Reduction Unit during an investigation.

The man was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, a quantity of Canadian currency and a quantity of possible heroin in his possession.

Tyler Wickes was arrested and brought before a Judicial Justice of the Peace. Wickes is facing the following charges:

-Possess a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

-Possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin

Wickes was held in custody and had a court appearance on Aug. 10, in Courtenay.

“Anytime we can get unlawful weapons and drugs off our city streets it’s a good thing,” noted Const. Rob Gardner, Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer.

“We have several sections within our detachment that work together very well, and get amazing results. Investigators are exploring whether these incidents are connected to the recent shootings that have occurred within our community.”
