Last week (Oct. 30), BC Hydro issued a public safety advisory to stay away from the higher flow areas around Puntledge River in the Barber鈥檚 Hole and Nymph Falls section. 

Today BC Hydro is increasing the discharge from the Comox Dam to about 45 m3s and extending the public safety advisory. This now extends the danger areas to the Puntledge River area downstream of the powerhouse. This is estimated to continue until at least Nov. 15. 

The Comox Lake Reservoir is currently at 134.1 metres above sea level, a 2.4 metre increase since Oct. 18. Inflows into the reservoir will peak around 85 m3/s Nov. 4 and then begin to decrease until Nov. 8 when there is a chance for another moderate response to a series of weather systems extending into early next week. 

Precipitation and flows are forecast to be above normal over the next 7 to 10 days. BC Hydro will continue to update the community if there is significant change in the weather or their operations.

BC Hydro is asking the public to please stay away from the higher flows along the Puntledge River. Safety signage along the river is in place highlighting the risk.
