Forest in the Village (FITV), is a project led by the Cumberland Community Forest Society (CCFS), aiming to raise community awareness about the benefits of urban forests for biodiversity and climate resilience.
Moreover, the initiative seeks to support the village鈥檚 to increase canopy cover in Cumberland鈥檚 urban areas from 20 per cent to 30 per cent by 2040.
In order to achieve this goal, FITV welcomes community involvement, inviting all residents to participate in this effort via three options:
鈥� Buy a tree from a local nursery, or grow your own tree from seeds.
鈥� Buy one of five subsidized (50 per cent) trees proposed by the CCFS. For more information visit

A community-wide planting day is scheduled for Oct. 15. All tree orders will be available for pick up on Sunday, Oct. 15.

Setting to launch before the end of 2023, the project鈥檚 first target is 125 trees to celebrate Cumberland鈥檚 125th anniversary.
