Following Prime Minister Justin ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ's resignation as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada on Monday morning, Courtenay-Alberni MP Gord Johns made a statement on social media.
"The resignation of Prime Minister ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ today is a reflection of the continued focus by Liberals and Conservatives on the their self-serving political agendas," Johns wrote on his Facebook page. "Neither of these corporate-controlled parties are focused on making life better for everyday Canadians.
Our small but mighty NDP caucus, has worked diligently to get the most out of this minority parliament, forcing the Liberals to establish a national dental care program, pharmacare, affordable child care, affordable housing, school lunches and other benefits, in spite of Conservative mudslinging and obstruction. We have clearly identified corporate greed as a key factor in the cost of living crisis while Conservatives and Liberals remain silent about record profits from grocery store chains, banks and the oil and gas and telecommunications sectors. Instead, they have bickered internally and engaged in shameful school-yard name calling in the House of Commons.
For myself, I will not be distracted in the weeks ahead from pursuing the interests of the people of Courtenay-Alberni, including the advancement of economic, environmental and social proposals and projects to support them as they face this cost of living crisis."
