From traditional feasts to henna tattooing classes, the Comox Valley Afghan Sponsorship Team (CVAST) is aiming to build a stronger, more diverse community.
CVAST is a group of local citizens that came together in 2022 to help sponsor the settlement of Afghan refugees privately. They provide financial and social support for a family during their first year in the Valley.
During the summer of 2023, the organization welcomed its sponsorship family to the area - a family of four. They are now hosting a variety of fundraising events to further grow their refugee sponsorship.
On Feb. 21, they are hosting a traditional Afghan feast prepared by a local Afghan family. On March 20, CVAST will host a Nowruz vegan feast with Iranian, Jordanian and Afghan dishes and on April 11, there will be a Afghan Eid feast.
