Fiddlejam in set to take the stage July 30 at 7 p.m.

Come enjoy fiddling, an integral part of our Canadian heritage, with Fiddlejam playing this Sunday July 30 at 7 p.m. at Simms Park.

Fiddlejam includes musicians of all ages playing a variety of styles and tunes: Canadian Old Time, Celtic, French Canadian, Cape Breton and dance music including foxtrots, two-steps, country shuffles, waltzes, jigs, polkas, reels and swing tunes.

They are an eclectic group of 20 to 30 or so musicians which started in Comox a decade ago led by International fiddler Trent Freeman. Though primarily a fiddle group, accordions, banjos, guitars, mandolins and piano also fill out the sound with the occasional saxophone thrown in for good measure.

From September to April Fiddlejam plays for popular Contra Dances at the Big Yellow Merville Hall. Profits from the Contra Dances go toward bursaries for young fiddle players to attend lessons, workshops, and camps.

Simms Millennium Park is located by the 5th Street Bridge and across from Lewis Park. Please bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

Other featured Simms Park performances on Sundays at 7pm include Country Pickin’ on August 13, Duo of Duos on August 20, and Completely Creedence on August 27.
