To dance is to feel completely happy.

Watching dance brings complete happiness as well. If this is what you seek - you will certainly find it exploding on the stage of the Sid Williams Theatre Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2 as the Laurie Tinkler School of Dance presents its 34rd annual recital - Dance Explosion 2017.

Seen throughout the year at many community events, and certainly on stage in The Nutcracker, the Laurie Tinkler dancers always look forward to the annual recital. At recital, dancers get to show off skills they have learned during the year.

Dance Explosion is the best opportunity to see the full spectrum of dance styles studied by students at the Laurie Tinkler School of Dance.

While known for instruction in Highland Dancing, the school offers so much more.

Be prepared to experience the beauty of classical ballet, the excitement of jazz, the rhythm of tap, the exotic precision of hip hop, the reflective moods of lyrical, the inspiration of contemporary, the haunting energy of Irish and the fun of modern stage.

There are rumours of a tea party and expectations of a visit from some winged creatures. With this much variety, Dance Explosion 2017 is sure to be a performance that spreads happiness for everybody.

This year’s show has been choreographed primarily by local talent: Laurie Tinkler, Natasha Kozak, Rachel Bood, Meghan Hunt and Megan Kerr. Many of the costumes were created locally to accompany the creative choreography of the faculty.

With the studio’s 35th anniversary on the horizon, plans are underway for an explosive year.

Registration will take place Aug. 16-19 at the studio, or online any time at laurietinkler.com

New for the coming season is a week of free dance classes Aug. 21-25. Dancers who are new to the studio are invited to try out a variety of dance forms.

Those looking for a family-focused studio with a wide range of performance opportunities, including The Nutcracker, will want to attend Dance Explosion 2017.

The recital is approximately three hours in length including intermission. The show begins at 7 p.m. both nights. Tickets are on sale at the Sid Williams box office. Adults are $21, students $19 and children $12.

Come and enjoy an evening of dance and happiness, while supporting some of our Valley’s up and coming talent.
