Canadian artist Peter Shostak is a national champion as part of the Coast to Coast Trail.

After many years of hard work and dedication by countless Canadians, Canada’s Coast to Coast Trail is on track to be fully connected this summer in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation.

The completed east-west route from Saint John’s Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia will be approximately 10,000 kilometres in length. This trail is being woven together from hundreds of local trails, such as the Galloping Goose Trail in Victoria, British Columbia, the Petite Temis in Quebec, and New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island’s Confederation Trail.

Although the Trail’s primary intended use is for bicycling and walking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding and snowmobiling are also permitted on certain sections.

As part of the celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday on July 1, 2017, a special pavilion in Ottawa will mark the full connection of the trail. Included in the pavilion will be the names of 158 National Trail Champions. This list features well-known Canadian personalities such as: Bryan Adams, Rick Hansen, Cindy Klassen, Peter Mansbridge, Alex Trebek, and Haley Wickenheiser. Canadian artist, Peter Shostak is honoured to also be named a National Champion.

Shostak, a native of Alberta, has used his childhood memories of prairie life during the forties and fifties for much of his artistic inspiration. Since 2005, Peter and his wife, Geraldine, have been residents of Courtenay, where he has his studio and continues to paint images of Western Canada.
