Busy summer for CYMC

The anticipation for the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre’s (CYMC) summer camp has been building for months and in less than a week it all begins.

The anticipation for the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre’s (CYMC) summer camp has been building for months and in less than a week it all begins.

Saturday, July 1, 48 eager singers and dancers will arrive to audition for Catch Me if You Can, the musical, followed on Sunday by 20-plus string and piano students. Another 16 junior strings players follow on Monday for their week long program.

The counselors and cooks will welcome them to Mark Isfeld Senior Secondary, all cleaned and cleared for us. Three weeks of music including classical, contemporary, jazz, song and dance will be underway. Fans will return to fill seats at the Sid Williams and Stan Hagen theatres as well as the Native Sons Hall.

We will take our music to senior residences and as far as Port Alberni for an instrumental concert. Brand new this year, the jazz faculty has planned a swing dance in the third week.

For those unfamiliar with CYMC, we invite you to experience all genres at our anniversary gala, buffet and concert on Saturday, July 8. Information on all concerts and shows is available on the website, cymc.ca, or by calling the office at 250-338-7463.
