Is your Foodsafe certification still valid?

According to B.C. Ministry of Health, approximately 800,000 B.C. Foodsafe Level 1 certificates will be expired by August 28th, 2018. The BC Health Authority new regulations state that any Foodsafe Certificates obtained before 2013 are no longer valid. Research shows that 95% of people who took their Foodsafe Level 1 in the past 5 years or earlier, would not pass the exam if they wrote it today.

Royston Coffee School together with Gaetane Palardy, chef and Foodsafe Level 1 instructor, have added a few more workshops to help with the overflow of people upgrading their qualifications and certificate renewal.

The fully updated B.C. Foodsafe course is about preventing the transmission of foodborne illness and also about worker safety on the job.

Anyone who prepares, serves and cleans up food should take this course for the safety of their customers as well as their own safety.

“Every operator of a Food Service Establishment must ensure they hold a valid Foodsafe Certificate or have at least one certified employee present in the establishment, while the operator is absent” (B.C. Public Health Act)

The first Foodsafe level 1 course will be presented on two evenings: Monday, August 13th and Wednesday, Aug. 15th from 5:30-9:30 p.m. and the second course is a full day, Monday, Aug. 27th from 9:30 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. Both courses will beheld at the Royston Coffee School’s new location, 3785 Laurel Drive, in Royston.

Cost is $110 and includes, instruction, Foodsafe Manual, Certificate, refreshments and snacks.
