Dear editor,
I have a very different perspective on the present U.S. administration to that expressed in David Works’ letter entitled Trump over ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ any day of the week. (Record, July 31), and I feel compelled to respond.
America’s greatness, in my view, has always been the high principles on which it was founded: equality, liberty and justice for all, which was why I became a U.S. citizen after living there for 20 years, in order to be able to vote.
Those principles are being ignored by president Trump, and his blinded, elected, Republican followers, in the name of economics and trade.
Under Trump’s rule – tax benefits are for the wealthy and those in power; Social Security earned by workers is threatened; Medicare is being removed and healthcare greatly reduced.
If the inhumane separation of young children from immigrant families in order to get the message across, that immigrants are not welcome in the U.S.A., is any indication of good leadership – I rest my case.
I am thankful to be living in Canada again under ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ â€“ an honest, trustworthy leader who believes in peace, achieved by diplomacy rather than threats; the wellbeing of the people; accepts the proven facts of climate change and reflects the will of Canadians to welcome immigrants and give them a chance of survival.
Trusting his integrity, and democratic principles, I would choose ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ over Trump any time.
Before supporting Trump, I urge all people – don’t listen to what he says.
Look at the legislation he is forcing through that is causing great harm to the credibility and trust in the U.S.A., a once admired nation, and threatening global stability in this critical time in history.
