Dear editor,

Re: proposed Sixth Street bridge. Let’s see.

Courtenay city council voted against spending $2 million to cantilever the Fifth Street Bridge for bike lanes. Instead, they voted to spend $6 million on a foot/bike bridge at Sixth Street.

Question 1:  How does that make sense?

Question 2:  How could it possibly cost $6 million to build a footbridge that short?

The spectacular Elk Falls Suspension Bridge Project in Campbell River cost less than $3 million.

Question 3:  Do we need a fix in ’26?

Answer:  Yes.
