Dear Editor,
Two things wrong with the Alternative Approval Process.
On the one hand, by not putting an issue before the public via referendum, it is a sneaky way for a Council to achieve an unpopular goal.
On the other hand, it could be an easy way for an opposition group to defeat the issue, in that it only requires 10 per cent of the voting public to register their vote against it.
Either way, it is not democratic and shouldn’t be used.
