Dear Editor,
Below is a letter I sent to the Ministry of Transportation over a year ago. The response I got was that there was going to be a study. I have seen no sign of a study and have also seen serious accidents and/or fender benders on this road.
We recently moved onto Ryan Road East in Comox, just past the traffic light at Anderton and Ryan. I'm finding it quite upsetting that the speed limit is 80. The light does not have a left turn signal. If you are turning left from Ryan onto Anderton and there is a car turning left to go to the ferry, it's very difficult to see oncoming traffic that is going straight through and they are sometimes going 80 or more.
If you are on Anderton and turning right to get to our house on Ryan, the merge lane is very short and there is no way you can speed up to anywhere near 80 in that amount of space. There are many homes and businesses along Anderton and it's impossible to get off the highway without substantially slowing down. I have discussed this issue with a number of neighbours who are all in agreement with a speed reduction.
