I would like to say thank you to all the firefighters that kept us safe when all the fires were being set. What a great effort by everyone involved. Your efforts have not gone un noticed. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Even as a dog owner I have to add a beef to those people who believe that “off leash” means run amok, run at every person /dog they encounter and run a full minute ahead and out of view of their person. Please find some etiquette and respect for others or you are going to end up having fewer and fewer parks that are off leash. Take some dog training classes and look up the CKC good neighbour test so that you and your dogs are welcome everywhere. And please do not yell at people who have their dogs on leashes for whatever reasons when they don’t want their dog to ‘play’ with yours.

A huge beef to all of the people in the Comox Valley who feel entitled to litter their candy wrappers, Slurpee cups, cigarette butts and all other kinds of plastic garbage in the streets, parks, rivers and lakes of the Comox Valley. I’ve never seen this level of entitlement to litter in all of my days. To all the parents out there a lot of this litter looks like it’s kids’ garbage to and from school with their lunches. Please teach them that litter is killing animals and ruining our waterways. Signed Mother Earth.

Many thanks to the person who turned in my missing cell phone to the front desk at the Lewis Centre recently. After 10 days I was about to accept the fact that I’d have to replace it when a call from the centre informed me the lost had been found. So happy to have it back and not have the hassle and expense of getting a new phone! Thanks, too, to the alert employee who went to the trouble of deciphering the contact information on the faded ID label!

Bouquets to Relay Event Rentals. Our community BBQ event was made much more exciting with the loan of various outdoor games.Who knew that Dominoes, Yahtzee, Kerplunk and other games were available in an enlarged size for outdoor fun? We look forward to another opportunity to borrow the games and celebrate with our friends. Many thanks!

My beef is directed at all the people I see in grocery stores etc. buying cases of bottled water. The tap water here is perfectly safe to drink. If you’re bothered by a slight chlorine taste put a jug of tap water in the fridge – the chlorine evaporates! Stop supporting transnational corporations that pay virtually nothing for the water they bottle. And think about all those single-use plastic bottles you’re using too!

A beef to the person living in Comox that insists on feeding peanuts in the shell to the crows. Please stop. I counted 35 crows sitting on my roof one morning last week. Your neighbours are tired of cleaning peanut shells out of their eavestroughs.

A bouquet and thanks to the RCMP officer who found our missing Canada Post community mailbox which had been moved without notice to residents and with no clues left at the original site. We had a mailbox one day and nothing but an empty space the next day. Your assistance was much appreciated by all the affected residents who initially suspected mail theft.

Sending a huge bouquet to Joanne in the seasonal department of Canadian Tire - Courtenay. She truly exemplifies quality customer service with her cheerful demeanour and is a huge asset to the store. Knowing exactly the patio set I was looking for, we kept in touch until it finally arrived. She then effortlessly made all the arrangements to have it assembled and delivered by Chris and his partner. I can’t say enough about this wonderful group of employees who definitely have made me one very happy and satisfied senior citizen. Thank you ‘Bestie’!

We went to the cemetery on Sunday to change the flowers on our daughter’s niche but there were no flowers to change – the flower stealer had struck again. The flowers (artificial) plus the little angel attached to a petal were gone. This is not the first time this has happened, so I presume someone thinks it is easier to take flowers than bring their own. I have spoken to others who have had the same things happen. How would this person feel if it was happening to them? I cannot understand how one could stoop so low as to do this, but I hope they remember what goes around comes around and hope they sleep well at night.

Bouquets of laughter to the person who wrote the beef about the people who refer to Union Bay with rude names. I had a good laugh about it. Also, I’ve been to Union Bay many times and it seems like a nice place to live, and it’s much more beautiful than a “snake pit.” My brother and I love to go fishing and prawning there, and we love how there’s a free boat launch to use. We always have an abundance of fish and prawns in our freezer. Also, sorry to the people who live in Union Bay and have to deal with it being called “the snake pit,” or other insulting names.

Three huge bouquets to the three fishermen who towed us back to shore, Wednesday, March 27. We were on our maiden voyage with our new-to-us boat when the motor quit on us. We had some emergency supplies onboard, but there was nobody around at the time. After about two hours, we finally saw this one fishing boat in the distance. We then started waving frantically, and they spotted us. We thank you again for saving our lives.

It seems the City of Courtenay still does not get it! Even on an “off” day, the lack of handicap parking is obvious. The two spots on 5th Street were taken and of the others, the one on Duncan was occupied by a large truck that took two spots, and the one in the lot on Duncan at 4th was occupied by a person sitting in his vehicle waiting for his wife, who had gone shopping. It never occurred to him to take a different spot and give the extra room to the elderly gentleman who had to struggle to get his wife out of their car without hitting the door of the car beside him. I never did find a spot.

Big rounds of applause and standing ovations to Three Legged Dog’s latest production, Jesus Christ Superstar. Everyone involved should be congratulated, it was another hit. I look forward to the next one.
