Dear Editor,

Thank you abundantly for the CV Record’s December 18 Marc Kitteringham article on Merville resident Sally Gellard’s participation in the Peace Train to Ottawa.

It is so wonderful to hear Canadians standing up for peace and justice in our beleaguered world. There was a time when the core identity of Canada was as a peace loving/promoting country.

I am also delighted to hear that our Member of Parliament, Gord Johns is presenting the peace petition to parliament. I long for Canada to step back into the role of peacemaker and advocate that was once its identity.

Today, when we need it most, there are so few voices for peace. Indeed, the news every day is about countries gone mad with indifference to human suffering and blind to the peace that we once valued so highly. Today, on many fronts, we are closer to nuclear Armageddon than at any time in my life.

If only we could have Justin ̨ÍåMMÂãÁÄÊÒ’s father back — who was a passionate voice for peace and justice.

It is almost as if world leaders just don’t understand that humanity will not survive a nuclear war.

This is, theoretically, the season to recommit to peace and justice as the indisputable goal of our social/political organization.
