Greater Victoria residents will stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the grounds of the BC Legislature Saturday for the Elbows Up, Victoria! campaign in a show of national unity.
The family-friendly event, planned for 11 a.m. on April 5, is billed as a non-partisan celebration to bring Canadians together in a peaceful show of unity, resilience, and strength.
The Victoria event will feature a lineup of speakers and musicians, including the Raging Grannies, award-winning puppeteer Tim Gosley, along with other local speakers and performers. The gathering will include speeches, live music by Victoria singer-songwriter Deb Rhymer and jazz singer-songwriter Heather Ferguson and community engagement activities aimed at fostering conversation and connection.
“Elbows Up, Canada! is about standing together – proud, strong, and united,” said Peter Wall, an organizer of the movement, in a release.
Local organizers worked to quickly bring the Victoria event together so it could be held in tandem with Hands Off rallies taking place across the United States.
Elbows Up, Victoria! is a grassroots movement bringing Canadians together to stand up for our country with optimism, unity and strength, according to the group's Facebook page. "We are non-partisan, peaceful, and proudly Canadian."
