Maclean's magazine praises campus setting and research strengths in annual ranking

The University of Victoria (UVic) has been ranked as the second-best comprehensive university in Canada, according to Maclean's magazine's latest annual ranking. This prestigious recognition places UVic just behind Simon Fraser University and highlights the institution's significant research contributions and diverse academic offerings.

Maclean's praised UVic's unique campus setting, surrounded by ocean, mountains, and forests, emphasizing its appeal to students who enjoy outdoor study spaces. The magazine also highlighted UVic's research strengths in areas such as ocean and climate health, Indigenous knowledge, and sustainable communities.

UVic's research facilities, including Ocean Networks Canada, were noted for their contributions to environmental and sustainability studies. The university's faculty of fine arts and entrepreneurial initiatives in business, engineering, and computer science were also commended for fostering creativity and innovation on campus.

Overall, UVic placed 16th among all Canadian universities, with the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia taking the top two spots nationally.
