An SUV hit a mother and her 11-month-old child in a crosswalk just after the vehicle's driver sped through a roundabout on Wednesday (Sept. 4), according to police. 

Both pedestrians suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, which led to the driver receiving a ticket. 

West Shore RCMP officers and paramedics responded to the crash at Peatt Road and Brock Avenue just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old mother was walking in the crosswalk with her child, who was in a stroller, as the pedestrian lights were flashing when they were struck by the Nissan Pathfinder, police said.

The vehicle was travelling in the nearby roundabout at a high speed before the driver exited onto Brock Avenue, where the pedestrian pair were crossing, police said.  

The child didn't suffer "major injuries" and was taken to the hospital as a precaution, a West Shore RCMP news release said. The mother suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital to receive care. 

The 24-year-old driver was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention. The vehicle was also towed and it will undergo a full mechanical inspection.
