82-year-old Dawn Fyke swam across the Okanagan Lake on July 20.

An 82-year-old member of the Pinnacle Fitness Swimfit Club at Saanich Commonwealth Pool completed a 2.2 kilometre swim across the Okanagan Lake in Kelowna.

Dawn Fyke began her swim training in 2022 after an injury from falling that resulted in damage to her leg muscles. When she started swimming, she used a "walker" to get to poolside and she required assistance to get out of the water according to a news release.

She ended up getting second place in her age-group.

"It is a result of the encouragement and training I received from the coaches and programs offered by Pinnacle Fitness and Saanich Commonwealth Pool. We are so fortunate to have this great facility,” noted Fyke in the release.

This was the 76th year the Across the Lake Swim has been sponsored, and this year 1,100 participants registered.
