Highway 1 northbound lanes on the Colquitz River Bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. April 16 to 5:30 a.m. April 17.

Late-night drivers should expect slower traffic on Highway 1 tonight (April 16).

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit has announced the closure of northbound Highway 1 lanes on the Colquitz River Bridge on Wednesday, April 16, as it advances work on the bridge widening project.

The bridge carrying northbound traffic is set to close at 8 p.m., reopening at 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17.

During this time, northbound traffic will be diverted to the adjacent bridge. Single-lane traffic will continue in each direction on the southbound bridge.

"The closure is necessary for driver and worker safety while work advances to build the bus-on-shoulder lane on the bridge structure," the ministry stated in a press release.

The ministry is also reminding drivers to proceed with caution, as there is a construction zone speed limit of 50 km/h in effect. Drivers are also reminded to obey all signage in the area.

Traffic-control workers will redirect traffic during the detour period.
