Free family fun in Courtenay for July 1st

Canada Day in Courtenay, Saturday, July 1, 2017 is a celebration honoring our country’s 150th birthday.

Canada Day in Courtenay, Saturday, July 1, 2017 is a celebration honoring our country’s 150th birthday.

This is one of the Comox Valley’s premier yearly events and it is all free. Courtenay is the place to be on Canada Day!

July 1st - Various locations

8:30 am - 10:00 am - Kids Bicycle Decorating Contest, held at 5th and Menzies. All children are encouraged to decorate their bike and take it up to Lake Trail School. Judges give cash prizes in every age group and all children get a prize gift for entering. Decorating the bikes are given extra consideration if in theme.

The highlight of the Bike Decorated Contest is that all entries get to lead the Grande Parade down 5th Street. Parents are asked to pick up their kids at the Courtenay Recreation Lewis Centre around 11am.

9:30 am - 5th Street Mile - Comox Valley Road Runners Family Fun Run!

10:00 am - Canada 150 Grand Parade downtown along 5th Street.

At Simms Park:

7:00 am - 9:00 am - Kinsmen Pancake Breakfast

12:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Mini Pow Wow

4:00 pm - Rock out with the winners of the 2017 Battle of the Bands

At Lewis Park:

11:30 am - 12:00 pm - Opening Ceremonies and FREE birthday cake!

11:30 am - 4:00 pm - FREE Inflatable fun and games with Courtenay Recreation

12:00 pm - 3:00 pm - Free Circus Workshop

1:00 pm (approx.) - Ducky 500 Race, Finish Line 5th Street Bridge

1:30 pm - 4:30 pm - Free outdoor swim, Courtenay Outdoor Pool

3:00 pm - FREE kids Bike Draw

Courtenay Museum:

12:00 pm - 4:00 pm - On Canada Day, drop by the Courtenay and District Museum after the parade and help celebrate our country’s birthday. Free admission, balloons and door prize draw!

Native Sons Hall:

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Tea Dance hosted by the Evergreen Club with special guests, Georgia Straight Big Band

Sid Williams Theatre & Centennial Square:

9:00 am - 10:00 am - Comox Valley & District Concert Band

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm - FREE Variety Show!

July 2nd - Simms Park

7:00 pm - 9:30 - Canada 150 Jam - Celebrate 150 with some amazing local talent!
