The Comox Valley Exhibition is going to the dogs.
Mike Trimble, president of CVEX said one of the highlights of this weekend’s exhibition is West Central Waterdogs from Alberta - a wet, wild, crowd-pleasing show featuring dogs from a variety of breeds and sizes, jumping from one end of a 36-foot dock 20 feet through the air before a splashdown in the pool.
“Every year it’s a bit different - there’s a huge appeal in splashing and seeing a dog running and jump over water in the air,” he explained.
“It’s not uncommon to have a crowd of 200 people watching in the Rotary Bowl.”
Trimble added there is not one type of dog that dominates the competition, and members of the public are welcome to bring their dog to the event as part of the ‘Try-It’ events throughout the weekend.
There are five different jump divisions: novice, junior, senior, master and top dog.
The formal competition for West Central Waterdogs switches throughout the weekend from jumps, tosses, rookie and pro grabs.
