Vancouver Canucks defenceman Filip Hronek has been assigned to Abbotsford for a conditioning stint.

The NHL club announced that move on social media on Wednesday (Jan. 8).

An AHL conditioning loan can last a total of 14 consecutive days, meaning that a decision on his status must be made by Jan. 22.

During a conditioning stint the player can participate in AHL practices and games. It's not yet known if Hronek will appear in any games with Abbotsford. Hronek did play parts of three seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins when he was part of the Detroit Red Wings organization. He scored 39 points in 67 games for Grand Rapids in 2017-18 and 24 points in 31 games for the club in 2018-19.

Hronek will receive his NHL salary and count against the salary cap while he is in Abbotsford. He has been out with since late-November after having a lower-body procedure. Hronek also sustained a reported shoulder injury during a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 27, but surgery was not required in that case.

He signed an eight-year, $58 million contract with the Canucks on June 19, 2024. Hronek was acquired by the team in a 2023 trade with Detroit.

The Abbotsford Canucks next host the Henderson Silver Knights on Friday (Jan. 10) and Saturday (Jan. 11). They also have games against the Ontario Reign on Tuesday (Jan. 14) and Wednesday (Jan. 15).
