It was a great weekend for breweries in the Comox Valley, with three bringing home awards from various beer competitions over the past few days.

Land and Sea Brewing, Gladstone Brewing and Hornby Island Brewing all placed in the top three for a few different categories. There were two separate events over the weekend, the BC Beer Awards and the Canada Beer Cup.

Courtenay's Land and Sea also took home some hardware from the BC Book Awards, with three place finishes for their Goldfinch Helles, Glacier Cream Ale and Westward IPA respectively.

"They are three beers that we're really, really fond of, which I'm pumped on," said head brewer Levon Olson. "They're straightforward beers, and are really dialed-in to what they are."

Hornby Island Brewing Company also came home with a win over the weekend. Their S-92 Imperial Stout, described as "Deliciously dark and complex with notes of espresso. It might have you feeling like you are moving at 280 km/h without leaving the ground," was given the gold medal at the Canada Beer Cup.

"The S-92 Imperial Stout stood out among hundreds of entries for its bold flavour profile and exceptional craftsmanship," says a release from Hornby Island  Brewing Company. "Winning the gold in this category is a significant achievement, reflecting the dedication of our small team to create high-quality, innovative beers."

“We are incredibly honoured to receive this award,” said Ashley Stotts, Co-Owner/Brewer of Hornby Island Brewing Company. “To have our S-92 Imperial Stout recognized by such a distinguished panel of judges is a testament to the hard work and passion of our small team of two. We are grateful to the Canada Beer Cup for this recognition and to our loyal customers for their continued support.”

Gladstone Brewing was named in both the B.C. and Canadian. For the national competition, they placed third for their Gladstone Cerveza in the International Pale Lager category, and placed second for both their Gladstone Feistbier (Pale Malty European Lager) and their Gladstone Glad Light (Pale Bitter European Lager). For the provincial awards, they took home two third place medals for their Gladstone Kolsch and Red Ales, and a gold for their Glad Light beer.
