The Comox Valley Art Gallery invites everyone to come to a free film screening of some new youth-created films which will take place on Jan 10, at 7 p.m. at the Sid Williams Theatre.
"Come celebrate the hard work of Comox Valley’s upcoming creatives," a release about the event says. "The films range in theme from a dystopian sci-fi film to a gentle story that explores the history of art, creativity and play."
Each participant in the program creates two films; one independent film and one film that is created to celebrate the sustainable work that different organizations are doing in the Comox Valley. The community film topics range from a unique project in which youth count salmon in our rivers and feed injured wildlife, to a brave little space that has been created for people to hold conversations about death and dying. The participating organizations include the Comox Valley Hospice Society, the Youth and Ecological Restoration Program, the Lake Trail Community School Program, the Lifelong Learning Centre, Viridian Solar Energy Co-op, the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association, and the Comox Valley Youth Music Centre.
The program uses digital media, creative facilitation and artistic collaboration as a framework for youth to re-imagine our world and to come up with ideas about how we can work towards a more sustainable future.
“The Comox Valley Art Gallery's Youth Media Project uplifts emerging creative changemakers and story-tellers. It is a safe and inclusive space where contemporary issues can be examined and where participants can make and share meaningful media.” says Team Leader Krista Tupper.
The CVAG YMP project partners with the Wachiay Friendship Centre, the Creative Employment Access Centre and the Sid William’s Theatre.
