Join World Community for a screening of the award-winning documentary ‘THE GIANTS: The Epic Fight to Save Australia’s Amazon’ Tuesday Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Hagen Theatre, North Island College.
What difference can one dedicated environmentalist make? The intertwined fate of trees and humans is captured in this portrait of environmental folk hero and gay icon Dr. Bob Brown. ‘THE GIANTS’ explores how ecology politics was taken from the fringes to the centre of power. The story of Brown’s decades of activism is interwoven with the extraordinary life cycle of Australia’s giant trees.
The hidden life of the forest is brought to screen by cameras rigged high in the tree canopy; captivating animation generated from 3D tree scans; and thought-provoking insights from David Suzuki and mycologist Merlin Sheldrake.
Breathtaking cinematography and animations make for an immersive cinematic experience. Multiple awards include Best Environmental Film at the 2024 Banff Mountain Film Festival.
Admission is by donation (suggested $12 or what you can afford).
