Swing into spring March 1 with Comox Valley Stomp to the music of the Strathcona Big Band.
Dance the night away at the historic Native Sons Hall. The proceeds of the evening support the Comox Valley Hospice Society and will be a great way to make new friends, learn some new steps, and support a great cause at the same time. Tickets are $30 each, and are available at . The doors open at 6:30, so come early for a swing dance lesson included in the ticket price. Dancing starts at 7:30 and will go until 11 p.m., so this is a great opportunity to make new friends, and express your vitality.
The Strathcona Big Band is a hard-swinging 19-piece big band with a priority of having fun and enjoying music from the swing era that includes Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and more. The group will feature vocalist Amy Lelliot and Mathew Baker, longtime members of the band and a delight for the ears.
The band has enjoyed many gigs over the past few years, including teaming up with the Carihi high band for an annual performance at Spirit Square, many sold-out shows at the Rivercity Players and last year's live swing dancing performance featuring Comox Valley Stomp.
Comox Valley Stomp is a dance collective made up of people who love to dance and who want to promote swing dance and live jazz music in the Comox Valley. They run weekly Tuesday night swing dances with beginner lessons at the Waverley as well as other workshops and events like this one. Interested people can follow Comox Valley Stomp on social media.
The evening will kick off with a swing dance lesson followed by live music and spectacular dance demos in salsa, West Coast swing, and ballroom styles. The Comox Valley Cyclepaths Snack Shack store will be open throughout the night, as well as an incredible silent auction featuring private and group dance lessons from the top instructors in the valley, and some 50/50 draws.
