The Kiwanis Club of Courtenay in conjunction with Square 1 Travel present the Sound of Music Sing-Along at the Sid Williams Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
This very popular musical sing-along has been shown worldwide to great acclaim. All funds raised from ticket sales go to the Pediatric Ward of St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The Sound of Music is based on the true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent, regularly misses her morning prayers because she loves going to the hills to sing the title song.
Deciding that Maria needs to learn something about the real world before taking her vows, the Mother Superior sends her off to be the governess to the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp.
Maria soon ingratiates herself with the children and eventually with Captain Von Trapp. They return from their honeymoon shortly after the Nazis march into Austria.
Watch the movie while you sing along to the soundtracks, including Maria, I Have Confidence, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, My Favourite Things, Do-Ra-Mi, The Lonely Goatherd, So Long, Farewell, Climb Every Mountain, Something Good, Edelweiss and Landler.
All songs are captioned on the bottom of the screen. Audiences are encouraged to dress for the occasion.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Sid Williams Theatre box office or online at www.sidwilliamstheatre.com.
