Australian, Taiwanese-Australian songstress Kim Yang is coming to Canada for Vancouver鈥檚 Jade Music Fest, an annual music event which aims to make Vancouver the North American hub for Chinese-language music through the elevation of under-represented Sinophone artists in B.C.

Both artists will be performing in English and in their native languages.

鈥淲e decided it would be exciting to try to bring some of the modern flavour of the Jade Music Fest to Courtenay鈥檚 Old Church Theatre,鈥� said promoter Doug Cox. 鈥淜im agreed to come do a double bill with Vancouver鈥檚 Tennyson King, who was a popular featured performer at this summer鈥檚 Vancouver Island MusicFest.鈥�

Yang鈥檚 ethereal voice, evocative lyrics and soothing instrument fingerpicking capture the attention of passersby. Inspired by musicians like Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell,Eva Cassidy and Bon Iver, Yang鈥檚 music is an eclectic blend of folk, pop and blues. Her songs speak from her experiences as a partner, a daughter, a traveller and an insecure soul. With Yang鈥檚 seductive blend of sounds, she creates music that balances delicately between vulnerability and power.

With the release of her debut EP Ocean of Mind, in 2019, she has immediately established herself as an artist to watch. Since developing a passion for music at an early age, Yang has shared her voice everywhere from intimate bookshops to national Australian television. In 2016, driven by a desire to share her stories with the world, Yang picked up her ukulele and guitar and started writing songs. She stepped out of her bedroom and into the streets, markets and cafes of Canberra. Since then she has collaborated with renowned local artists and played at major venues in Canberra, around Australia and overseas.

King is rapidly gathering fans all over the world. Born in Hong Kong, raised in Canada, this nomadic musician brings a jovial personality to the stage. He often appears solo in great halls to small intimate theatres stunning the crowd with stories of adventure and travels while strumming electrifying guitar sounds paired with silky vocal lines.

Over the past two years, King has been living his passion of travelling and sharing his music with different cultures all over. He鈥檚 driven from the bustling city of Toronto to the mountains of British Columbia in Canada, along the coast from Tasmania up to Darwin in Australia, and taking bullet trains through the vastness of China. Between backpacking trips in Southeast Asia, Tennyson has played in Thailand and Vietnam with performances at the famous Shambala In your Heart Festival.
