Julie Kim’s humour is known to stay away from politics and religion. But one topic she is known to bring down the house with is women-centred comedy.

It’s only topical then that during the week after International Women’s Day, Kim is performing her 19+ comedy show at a pair of Vancouver Island venues.

The show covers “all the topics women know and love to hate” but also aims for content that is “funny for all genders,” the press release said.

“This is one for you, your mom, your sister, your friends.”

Kim has been a gala performer at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and made her debut at the 2023 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. In 2022 Julie toured across North America doing 40 theatre shows with Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah).

Kim also received three nominations for writing and producing from the Canadian Academy in 2023 and one win, due to her contributions to Kim’s Convenience, Run the Burbs, and Still Standing.

And if that’s not enough, she also was a producer and writer for the 2022 and 2023 Juno Awards.

These shows are one for the ladies, but of course, Kim’s lighthearted humour can be appreciated by all (so long as they’re over 19).

The first show is set for March 14 at the Charlie White Theatre, part of the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney. The second is on March 15, at the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay.
