Seattle-based singer Gina Sal谩 returns to her B.C. roots for a winter tour (and visit with family).
While she鈥檚 on the Island, she performs in Victoria, on Gabriola Island and in Courtenay. Sal谩, who has been chanting mantra and cross-cultural song for more than 35 years, is a vivacious bundle of song, with a monumental voice and huge, loving heart.
Her performances and workshops are deep and transformative, even as they are energetic, inspiring, infectious, and uplifting.
Sal谩 has followings all over the world, especially in Canada, the U.S., Japan and Mexico, for her tours, performances and workshops.
Sal谩 has been leading workshops, chants, tours and offering performances internationally for nearly 20 years.
Sponsored by Oliver Clarke and the Mystic Valley Voices of the Comox Valley, Sala will offer workshops and Kirtan at the Yoga Studio on Rosewall, 2440B Rosewall Cres. in Courtenay.
Workshops happen Jan. 21 (1 to 4 p.m.) ($45), and Jan. 22 (9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.) ($85).
You can attend both for $110.
In the Kirtan on Jan. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m., Sal谩 will be joined by Ali Lennox (tabla) and Matt O鈥橠onnell (sitar), who are also trained in Varanasi, India. The fee is $15 to 20; no one is turned away for lack of funds, special arrangements available.
A 10-per-cent reduction in cost is available for bookings before Jan. 15.
