Celebrate Earth Day this Friday at the Waverley Hotel with the infamous Nakeddjs and an evening of global electronica fusion plus the soulful music of Emily Spiller.

For the past two years, TheNakeddjs (Michael O’Donell, Justin Stirn, and Benjamin Howells) have wreaked havoc on the Comox Valley, DJing and producing well over 100 events that include Carrington Bay, the Hornby Island Get Up, Big Day Up, Big Time Out and Mount Washington's Big Air Contest, as well as holding down the Comox Valley's monthly Reggae/Dancehall Night at the Mex.

TheNakeddjs' sound includes elements of reggae, dancehall, nu funk, various house styles, late-night rave music, ragga breaks, dub, dub step , funky glitch, mashups, global and ethnic sounds ranging from Balkan and new Gypsi, to African, eastern Arabic, electro swing and '50s ragtime and Latin funk.

Spiller has been called the next Adele, the new Duffy. A mix of Zap Mama and Feist meets Amy Winehouse.

Using a loop sampler and other instruments, her sound is a mashup of blues, jazz, and soul infused vocals that simultaneously ache and soothe. Since 2003, Emily has toured in Canada, China, Australia and New Zealand. In 2007, she released her first EP Live At The Apartment, quickly finding airplay in Canada and New Zealand.

She was awarded a Factor grant for her latest EP The Wonderbro Remixes (2010), her third release on Beacon Hill Records.

Spiller has been nominated for five Vancouver Island Music Awards this year, which will be held in Courtenay in June.

There's a $5 cover charge and doors open at 10 p.m.
