For the months of February, March and April, Martine’s Bistro on Beaufort Avenue in Comox will feature the acrylic landscape paintings of artist Neil Havers.
Martine’s owner Marcus Aartsen likes to enhance his locally-sourced, first-rate food by showcasing the works of local artists on his restaurant’s walls.
“I look forward to Martine’s diners having a chance to view my latest collection of paintings,” says Havers. “This collection is the culmination of five very rewarding years developing my painting skills and showcases scenes of Comox Lake, Mount Washington and Rebecca Spit, on Quadra Island, amongst others.”
After 35 years as a graphic artist owning and operating Havers Design in Courtenay, Havers retired in 2020 to pursue a career as a landscape painter. For many years, as a graphic artist, he combined his love for music and design in creating graphics for media use, merchandise and print material, including the annual performers guide for the hugely successful, annual Vancouver Island MusicFest.
Since taking up landscape painting he has become a juried member of the Canadian Federation of Artists and his work has been featured in a Federation Showcase. He has also participated in artist retreats throughout British Columbia learning from established artists, honing his skills and broadening his horizons.
“My work is inspired by the stunning scenery in this province but more particularly by the landscape right here in the Comox Valley and the west coast of Vancouver Island,” enthuses Havers.
Make a point of making a reservation at Martine’s Bistro and while enjoying the excellent epicurean delights at one of Vancouver Island’s finest restaurants overlooking Comox Harbour, view the art of one of the Valley’s finest artists.
