Dorothee Mields to sing in Courtenay

A rare opportunity for Courtenay to experience the enchanting voice of the acclaimed German soprano, Dorothee Mields, in an intriguing concert of music evoking emotions generated by the upheaval of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648).

With her enchantingly beautiful soprano voice, she brings the sound of this era back to life - no vibrato, yet extremely versatile, flawless in sound, and immensely transformative. - GK, Crescendo, 2021

Much sought-after for performances in Europe and with a far-reaching discography, Mields is pleased to be returning to the West Coast to perform once again with Marc Destrubé and his ensemble La Modestine, returning to Courtenay after their greatly appreciated concert last year. The two together have curated a fascinating program of beautiful music that blossomed from the Thirty Year’s War when writers, artists, and composers reflected on war and the longing for peace and heavenly pleasures.

Soprano Mields is an artist of the absolutely highest caliber and one who has an innate understanding of the music of the North German Baroque. Her vocal instrument is flawless: pure and transparent in timbre, yet capable of the most subtle inflections and cultivated shadings. She can find both radiant sweetness and compelling emotional depth, attributes that are particularly important in a repertoire where small regional variations can imply notable harmonic differences. – Vancouver Classical Music 2016

The concert is Wednesday Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at St. George United Church.
