St. George鈥檚 United Church invites everyone to the Songwriter Showcase 2023 on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 .p.m.
The showcase will feature award-winning Comox Valley songwriter/musicians Judy & Bruce Wing, Anela Kahiamoe, Ashley Sykes, and Brodie Lee Dawson.
The concert will raise money for the community giving fund at St. George鈥檚 United and Comox Valley Hospice Society. Tickets are $25 in advance at the church office or via Eventbrite (bit.ly/3RiSAJF) or $30 at the door. Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable donations for the Comox Valley Food Bank, as well; there will be a collection box at the door.
The Wing duo has been entertaining audiences with their heart-felt lyrics and creative reinventions of cover tunes with a quirky twist鈥攐ffering grooves that bridge a variety of genres from roots to blues, jazz and folk.
Kahiamoe, a Hawaiian native who moved to the Valley nearly 20 years ago, has been playing professionally for more than 40 years and even opened up concerts for Fleetwood Mac, Bread, and many others.
His music brings a tropical feel-good vibe to listeners young and old.
Sykes, who hails from Georgia originally, but a West Coast artist for many years, combines her gospel roots with her love of West Coast beauty to create a soothing, soulful sound whether she鈥檚 playing her guitar or piano.
She has written music for years and hosts the local Songwriters Circle each month.
Dawson delivers a punch to audiences with her pure and powerful voice, evocative lyrics and unique style that reflects a true love story between life and music to stir deep emotions in audiences throughout Canada.
St. George鈥檚 raises funds through a variety of events during the year to benefit local non-profits. In 2022, the church donated more than $20,000 to community groups, including Habitat for Humanity, LUSH, the Transition Society, and many others.
