It’s February already and it’s time for the Valentine’s version of the Community Contra Dance at the probably-soon-to-be-famous Merville Hall.

On Saturday, Feb. 19, bring your partner and whoop it up to the Contra Dance tunes of the Funtime Fiddlers.

These saucy musicians will play the fiddle tunes for your dancing pleasure while dance caller June Cannon demonstrates her muliebrity with her exquisite calls.

Once again, there will be a Contra Dance workshop right before the dance. From 6:45 to 7:15 p.m., Cannon will introduce the dancers to new moves as well as teach the basic moves. This workshop is free of charge.

At 7:30 p.m., the Funtime Fiddlers start the music and the dancing begins.

Single dancers are hugely welcome as they can pair up with anyone during the Contras and the Contra sets last about 15 to 20 minutes per dance. There will also be waltzes and reels; jigs and swing; schottisches and foxtrots for your enjoyment in-between the called Contra dances. This way, there is a dance for everyone.

The Fiddlers look forward to the addition of fiddler Trent Freeman, back home in the Valley for a few weeks in-between touring. A few sizzling solos would be a real treat.

If your tender tootsies need a break, then have a seat and sip a beverage or nibble on a snack. With subdued lighting and craftily arranged tables, the fiddle club tries to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere that you can thoroughly enjoy and participate in.

So on Saturday evening, steer a course for the Big Yellow Merville Dance Hall, right on the Old Island Highway, between Campbell River and Courtenay. Doors open at 7 p.m., dance starts at 7:30.

Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for youth and you can come as a family for $22. Free workshop starts at 6:45.

For more information, call 250-339-4249.
