This summer, the McLoughlin Gardens, located east of Merville Hall at 814 Tasman Road, is once again offering some unique opportunities to connect with nature and develop creativity.
The McLoughlin Gardens consists of a seaside nature park and retreat centre located at what was once the summer home and gardens of Brian and Sarah McLouglin. Along with simply visiting the site to explore on their own, people can pre-register to take part in the following summer programs:
- August 10: Landscape of the Heart (1 to 4 p.m.)
- Author Maleea Acker will offer an introduction to field journaling as a way to better experience and understand our natural environment using this combination of writing and art. No experience necessary!
- September 7: Tending the Spark: Mindfulness and the Creative Life (1 to 4 p.m.)
- Storyteller and author Margo McLoughlin will lead this workshop focusing on the importance of contemplative practice in the creative process. Discover how to refresh perception, awaken wonder and spark creativity.
- Open Now: Call for Applications – Writer-in-Residence
- The McLoughlin Garden Society is putting out a call for a Canadian children’s writer to come to the Gardens in the summer of 2025 as writer-in-residence. This will be a four-week residency with the deadline for application being Sept 15, 2024.
Please pre-register for these programs, some of which require a fee to participate. Visit for more information and to register.
If you’d like to learn more about the Gardens and get involved, consider taking out a membership or volunteering your time on a McLoughlin Society committee or its board.
