The 2023 Comox Valley Youth Music Centre Summer Jazz Intensive Camp begins July 16 and runs to July 22.
This year, the lineup of talented faculty members is led by the esteemed Greg Bush, whose rich experience includes serving as the director of jazz studies at Abilene University in Texas and teaching at prestigious institutions such as McMaster University and Vancouver Island University. Bush鈥檚 expertise as a jazz trumpeter, arranger, composer, and conductor is unmatched.
He is joined by an incredible group of musicians and educators who share a deep passion for jazz. Adam Robertson is a versatile drummer, percussionist, and composer with strong West Coast roots. Steve Wallace, one of Canada鈥檚 foremost jazz bassists, will captivate you with his wealth of experience. Cayleigh Borsboom, a true multi-talent, will infuse her unique perspective and love for jazz into every session. Lastly, James Darling, an accomplished pianist with an extensive musical background.
During the CYMC Summer Jazz Camp, students will have the opportunity to jam, collaborate, and learn from these exceptional faculty members. As the week comes to a close, the Comox Valley is in for a treat with three forgettable jazz performances. On July 20, join them at the enchanting Gardens on Anderton at 5 p.m. for the CYMC faculty concert. The jazz journey continues with a Jazz Jam at the Weird Church in Cumberland on July 21 at 7 p.m. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Faculty/Student Finale Concert on July 22nd at 7 p.m. at the Weird Church, where the culmination of talent and passion will be on full display.
