March 5 — “Universal Language”
Set in a reimagined Winnipeg, the film follows a group of children on eccentric quests to flummox the adults around them, and the government worker who returns home only to find his family is not what he remembered.
March 12 — “I’m Still Here”
Director Walter Salles focuses on the real-life story of Eunice Paiva, whose terrifying experience of sequestration and loss during Brazil’s military dictatorship transformed her into an activist, lawyer, and hero.
March 19 — “Queens”
Things happen fast in Lima in the summer of 1992. Lucia, Aurora, and their mother are apprehensive about saying goodbye to a country, to family and friends, but above all to Carlos, a father and ex-husband who has all but disappeared from their lives.
March 26 — “Drive Back Home”
In the winter of 1970, a cantankerous, small-town plumber from rural New Brunswick must drive his beat-up work truck 1,000 miles to Toronto to get his estranged, gay brother out of jail after his arrest for having sex in a public park.
April 9 — “The Room Next Door”
Ingrid and Martha became close friends while working together at the same magazine. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
April 2 — “Never Look Away”
Margaret Moth was an award-winning journalist known for capturing catastrophic events and atrocities on film, no matter the risk.
April 16 — “All We Imagine As Light”
This exquisitely beautiful film follows two nurses experiencing personal turning points tinged with the possibility of romance. Moving from urban bustle to seaside idyll, celebrated filmmaker Payal Kapadia locates the beating heart of Mumbai.
April 23 — “Flow”
Thrown together by circumstance in an eerily depopulated world now submerged in ever-rising waters, the furry and feathered characters in Gints Zilbalodis’ animated feature must find common ground if they hope to survive.
