“Blue on Blue Glacier” is one of the creations by Lynda Glover. Photo submitted

The Pearl Ellis Gallery presents “Painting the Wild Blue Wonder” by Lynda Glover, from Sept. 26-Oct. 21.

Glover’s emotional connection with art and creativity go back to her childhood when she drew and painted in her backyard in East Vancouver. She graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1971 with a teaching degree and a double art major in painting and design.

Her inspiration comes from nature, which she captures on her camera, or by painting watercolours on site, in the car or canoe, or sketching with friends. Georgia O’Keeffe taught her the importance of painting something one hundred times in different lights, times of day and seasons. In 2017, Glover challenged herself to paint the Comox Glacier 100 times, using different points of view, mediums and themes.

Strongly influenced by the legend of Queneesh, its historical importance and the symbol it has become for the Comox Valley, Glover wonders if that symbol will be lost to future generations as climate change causes the glacier to recede. Visible from Fanny Bay to the Oyster River, and from the Salish Sea, each perspective triggers her imagination with a myriad of possibilities.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 1-3 p.m. with the artist in attendance. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

The Pearl Ellis Art Gallery is located at 1729 Comox Ave. in Comox. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, noon-4 p.m.
