Volunteers play a crucial role in fundraising for local community non-profit charities.

As the Comox Valley Child Development Association is launching its 48th Annual Children’s Telethon for 2023, the telethon committee is already months into planning the event. Local community members who know what the CVCDA Annual Children’s Telethon is all about will likely have met the telethon’s committee chair, Pam Crowe.

“Pam has been a part of the fabric of the CVCDA for nearly its entire history, dedicating her time and skills to ensuring that the children and families in the Comox Valley continue to get what they need from the agency,” said CVCDA executive director Cindy Xavier. “Pam and her telethon committee members have invested thousands of hours of their time over decades of fundraising on behalf of the CVCDA.”

Passionate about her role as the telethon chair, Crowe starts working on the fundraiser early in the new year to ensure the telethon show is successful each year.

“Volunteers like Pam, her team and our staff volunteers are invaluable to non-profits like the CVCDA,” said Xavier. “What they accomplish in a relatively short amount of time is just outstanding and agencies like ours could not do a fundraiser like this without them.”

If you asked Crowe about her reasons for committing so much of her time to volunteer for the cause of the CVCDA she will tell you, “I do it for the kids.

“It is critical, families and children in the Comox Valley need the services the agency provides and there are not enough resources to meet those needs.”

On Nov. 5, the Sid Williams Theatre will be transformed into ‘Telethon Central,’ as volunteers - including MCs, performers and phone operators, ensure a smooth show for all those in attendance.

“You will see the telethon committee making sure all of the hundreds of details are taken care of so that at the end of the day we can celebrate the accomplishment of a successful fundraiser,” said Xavier.

The 48th Annual Children’s Telethon runs from noon-8 p.m. at the Sid Williams Theatre, Nov. 5. For more details, including the silent auction and 50-50 draw tickets, visit
