Valley View Elementary is getting a new accessible playground, as part of an ongoing funding program through the provincial government.

The Courtenay school is one of 26 in the province to receive $195,000 in funding for playground updates.

“Playgrounds enhance our kids' well-being," said Minister of Education and Child Care, Rachna Singh. "These are spaces where children can truly be themselves, where they express their joy, and learn valuable social skills. Our government is thrilled to ensure communities throughout the province gain better access to modern playgrounds for everyone's benefit.”

“This new playground will give kids a modern, accessible place to have fun, build friendships, and stay active,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “By supporting schools with playground funding, we’re also helping lift the burden to fundraise that previously fell upon parents.”

The start date for construction is yet to be determined.
