The Crown Isle Men's golf club presented this year's Rick Glanville Memorial scholarship to two local golfers on Aug. 18.

Max Brookshaw and Charlie Duncan both received the scholarship, which supports Crown Isle junior golfers to pursue post-secondary education and remain committed to their involvement in and promotion of golf.

“In concert with the Crown Isle Men’s Club, we believe that we have a crucial role in assisting our Junior Members on life’s journey’, said Crown Isle head-pro Jamie Moran.

The award was presented during the Annual Club Championship dinner. The scholarship is named in memory of Rick Glanville, who was a member of the Crown Isle Men’s Club executive committee when he passed away.

Brookshaw has been an employee of Crown Isle since he was 13 (5 years).

“It’s been a great experience in customer service, organization and managing people in my small circle," he said. "I’ve also enjoyed working with Adrien Wright, PGA Teaching Professional, and running Junior golf clinics. Helping kids get into the game is very gratifying."

He will be attending the UVIC Peter B, Gustavson School of Business this Fall.

Duncan has also been an employee of Crown Isle for the past three seasons. A product of Mark R. Isfeld Secondary High School, he will be attending Ulster University in Northern Ireland, starting in the 2024 fall semester. He will be working towards a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree and has been offered a position on the travelling university golf team, starting in September.

"Watch for positive golf results on the R&A Tour Series, the British Universities & Colleges Tour and the Irish Varsities Tour," says a release from the resort.

“This is one more way that the Men’s Club can support exceptional young male golfers to succeed in golf and their future careers. We wish both of these fine young men all the best in their future studies” said current Crown Isle men’s captain, Dennis Teasdale.
