The Town of Comox has hired Edward Henley as the new director of finance, with a mid-February start date.

Henley joins the town with a wealth of experience in local government, financial management and strategic planning, previously serving as the director of corporate services and treasurer for the County of Bruce in Ontario.

In his most recent role with the County of Bruce, Henleyled several key initiatives that aligned with the county’s strategic priorities, including the implementation of multi-year operating budgets, an infrastructure renewal plan in support of its asset management plan, and proactively improved risk management strategies.

“We are thrilled to welcome Edward Henley to the Town of Comox as our new director of finance,” said Jordan Wall, the town’s chief administrative officer. “His extensive experience in municipal finance will be invaluable as a mentor to our ambitious finance team, and his leadership will continue to provide oversight to manage our financial resources effectively in support of the town’s strategic plan. Additionally, I want to thank the current finance team for their commitment and willingness to take on extra duties during the recruitment period; given the small team, all the efforts are commendable.”

Henley has more than 15 years of experience in local government and holds the designations as a chartered professional accountant (CPA) and a certified management accountant (CMA). Prior to his tenure at County of Bruce, he held the position of director of finance and treasurer for Clearview in Simcoe County and as the director of financial services (treasurer) for the District of Tofino.

Edward also spent several years working in the financial services industry.

Edwards’s decision to join the Town of Comox comes as he relocates closer to family on Vancouver Island.

“I’m looking forward to my new role with the Town of Comox, becoming part of the community and gaining deeper insights into the Town’s internal organizational systems and processes,” said Henley. “I am motivated to support the team as we look to enhance and make recommendations to modernize systems and processes that will successfully set us up for future opportunities and sustainable growth.”
