The holiday season shines a little brighter this year, thanks to the heartfelt contributions from the Comox Valley community to the Everybody Deserves a Smile (EDAS) campaign. This inspiring initiative united 21 Comox Valley Schools to spread warmth, joy, and compassion to those in need.
This year’s highlights include:
• Over 7,000 sugar cookies baked and lovingly decorated
• More than 2,000 EDAS bags painted and personalized by students
• Over 2,500 Christmas cards handcrafted with care
• 1,683 care packages filled with essential items
The EDAS Club, consisting of Grade 7s from Ecole Puntledge Park, oversaw the logistics of getting care packages ready for delivery over three days. The care packages, filled with donations from the community, were delivered to support 28 soup kitchens, shelters, and support agencies – including 19 within the Comox Valley. The generosity of donors has provided an overflow of items to kick start next year’s efforts.
The entire operation is led by Ecole Puntledge Park teacher Madame Chantal Stefan who puts in countless hours each year for EDAS along with a dedicated group of volunteers.
From baking cookies to decorating bags and crafting cards, each contribution helped foster a spirit of giving and kindness among our students and within our schools.
For students in schools throughout the district, this campaign exemplifies the power of community and the importance of showing compassion for those in need.
