A list of Comox Valley students have advanced to compete in a provincial skills-competition.

Winners from a recent North Island event have advanced to a B.C. competition in Abbotsford in April. The list to represent Comox Valley includes Grayson Collins, Jordyn Wallace Patterson, Katie Brown, Sibylla Chauhan, Maya Diamond and Sharmilla Lorraine Manaois.

“Students from the Comox Valley School District have achieved outstanding success,” said media spokesperson Craig Sorochan. “Comox Valley Schools was well-represented among the medal winners.”

The local students won gold at a local skills competition, called the North Island Regional Skills Canada Competition. Through this, they gained access to the upcoming event in Abbotsford.

The students will compete in a variety of subjects, ranging from 2D animation to carpentry.

“Comox Valley Schools extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the students who participated in the competition,” said Sorochan. “The district also thanks the teachers, coaches, and families who have supported these young competitors, as well as the event organizers and sponsors who made this experience as enriching as possible.”

The district also gave a shout out to Steve Claassen, an educator who has also been the coordinator for the North Island region for 10 years. Claassen won a Local Hero award in 2023 for his commitment to the community.
