Attention all dads: 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Point Holmes Recreation Association (PHRA), and to celebrate, it is hosting an open house/barbecue/Father鈥檚 Day raffle on June 17.

Everyone is invited to attend the event being held at the pavilion on Lazo Road from 1-5 p.m.

The boat ramp was originally constructed in 1967 with funding from the Canada Centennial Commission, and the PHRA was created as a society to maintain the boat ramp and foreshore park on Lazo Road in Comox.

The society is fundraising to replace the aging pavilion at the waterfront, with plans to build a larger timber structure for the Comox Valley public to enjoy.

鈥淲ith the completion of the waterfront walkway along Lazo Road, we are seeing so many more people coming out to enjoy the view these days. A new pavilion will be another very popular facility provided by the Point Holmes Recreation Association,鈥� said PHRA president Rob James.

The raffle sponsors have provided more than $3,000 in amazing prizes, including a full-day fishing charter for three guests with Cliff鈥檚 Chinook Charters out of Comox. Other prizes include a Broil-Mate barbecue, a custom engraved 5鈥� PEETZ Evolution fishing reel (PEETZ Outdoors), a Weber portable grill (Home Depot), Scotty rod holders (Scotty), Mustang inflatable PFD (Parker Marine), Salmon flasher and spoon package (Gibbs Delta Tackle), ABU Garcia rod and reel (Gone Fishin鈥�), Kershaw fillet knife (Tyee Marine), and many more.

Tickets are on sale at several PHRA Corporate Sponsors; Cape Lazo Campground, Tyee Marine, Gone Fishin鈥� and Wade鈥檚 Autoworks.

鈥淭he main draw will be held at 4 pm on June 17, you do not need to be present to win, but we recommend you come out, enjoy the barbecue and enter to win one of our door prizes as well,鈥� said James. 鈥� Cape Lazo Power and Sail Squadron will also be onsite promoting their safe boating education programs.鈥�

The PHRA Annual General Meeting will be held at the pavilion at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25.
